Meet the Hutto Team Behind Mainspring Garage Door Co.
We’re the crew that shows up when your garage door quits at 6 a.m. or your opener starts grinding like a coffee can full of bolts. Every person on this page lives in the Hutto area or close enough to claim it. What ties us together isn’t a handbook - it’s the K.E.Y.S. code we train under: Krafted right, Every time, Your home first, Standing behind it. Carl Dutton started this company in 1984, and he’s still the one who answers the phone some nights. The rest of us just try to measure up.
Our People
Carl Dutton, Owner
I started Mainspring in 1984, back when Hutto was barely a dot on the map and you could still find farmland where the subdivisions are now. Named the company for the mainspring - the coil that carries the whole weight of a door - because that’s the part nobody thinks about until it snaps. I’ve held every job here: installer, technician, dispatcher, bookkeeper. These days I mostly run the operation and pick up the phone when the after-hours line rings, which is more often than my wife likes. I tell customers the price before we start, and if we don’t get it right, we come back. No forms to fill out, no manager to escalate to. Just a square deal, same as when I started.
Marcus T., Lead Technician
Marcus has been with us eight years, and he’s the one we send when a door has done something truly strange - like the time a customer in Riverwalk had a spring snap so hard it embedded in the drywall ceiling. He’s certified on high-torsion spring systems and carries a full spring inventory on his truck, which matters in Hutto because our summer heat cycles metal faster than up north. Off the job, Marcus rebuilds vintage motorcycles in his garage in Pflugerville and claims the patience transfers directly. He does not rush a spring wind, and he does not leave until the door balances clean.
Elena R., Senior Installer
Elena came to us from commercial construction five years ago, and she brought a rigor we didn’t know we needed. She’s our lead on new door installs and full replacements, especially the heavier insulated models people are choosing in Hutto’s newer builds. Factory-familiar with Clopay, Amarr, and Wayne Dalton, and she’s the one who checks that every track is plumb before the opener goes on. Her detail: she keeps a notebook of every door she’s installed, with the homeowner’s name and the date, going back to day one. Says it’s faster than searching the computer when someone calls back. She lives in Round Rock with two dogs who do not respect garage boundaries.
Darnell K., Service Coordinator
Darnell answers the phones and schedules the calls, which sounds simple until you try it at 11 p.m. on a Saturday when three doors have failed across Williamson County. He’s been with us four years, knows every technician’s strengths and every neighborhood’s traffic patterns, and he’s the one who makes sure Marcus gets the weird jobs and Elena gets the installs that need precision. He grew up in Hutto, graduated from Hutto High, and can tell you which streets flood in a hard rain and which ones have the low branches that scrape a service truck. He keeps a coffee maker at his desk and claims it’s for the callers, but we’ve never seen a visitor use it.
Jesse B., Apprentice Technician
Jesse joined us last spring after six years as an auto mechanic, and the transition to garage doors surprised him less than he expected. Same physics, bigger parts. He’s working his way through our journeyman program under Marcus, learning spring tension calculations and cable routing, and he’s already cleared to handle standard torsion replacements on his own. His first solo call was in Star Ranch, a broken cable on a double-wide door, and he finished in one trip with the parts from his truck. In his off hours he coaches youth baseball in Hutto, which explains why he’s patient with customers who want to watch the work. He explains what he’s doing without talking down. That’s harder to teach than the mechanical stuff.
One Standard, Every Job
We’re not a franchise, and we’re not a call center with subcontractors. Every technician on this page is background-checked, uniformed, and trained under the same K.E.Y.S. values code Carl wrote years ago. The 90-Day Done Right Promise applies whether Marcus handles your spring repair or Jesse handles his first solo cable job - if it’s not right, we come back at no charge, and that promise is written on every invoice before you sign it. Our trucks carry springs, cables, openers, and hardware for all major brands: LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie, Clopay, Amarr, Wayne Dalton, Craftsman, and Raynor. Most jobs finish in one visit because we bring the parts, not because we cut corners. When you call (512) 643-6990, day or night, you’ll reach a live person - Darnell, Carl, or whoever’s on the desk. No phone tree, no voicemail, no after-hours service that doesn’t know Hutto from Houston. We’ve been here since 1984. We’ll be here when you need us.
